Hey friends!

Chelsie here. As some of you may know, Ryan and I will be traveling the US in a fifth wheel from February 2015-September 2015. We will be speaking for Trades of Hope and photographing along the way. As exciting as it will be, finding a new home (never mind a mobile home) was a daunting task. I especially was looking for something that had lots of sunny colors and that fit our style. This was way too hard to find and so.... we had to create it! The last few months we have been hammering and drilling and cutting and sewing and painting and wallpapering, all to create our dream home within a fifth wheel that was in our budget. We picked a used fifth wheel that was budget friendly (under $15,000) and our total renovations/decor rang up under $2500. (The paint and floor came out to be much cheaper, so replacing those in a fifth wheel is budget friendly. Decor is where some of the added expense can come in). Remember that this is our permanent home now and we moved out of our apartment totally, so we made sure we put some extra love into making this home our own.

My Trades of Hope entrepreneur daughter-in-law shared tis with me. 5 yrs ago we sold our house & possessions, bought a 5th wheel & now Wouk as full time Mission Builders with Youth With A Mission (YWAM). I 'be been considering a re-do of our "home". Absolutely LOVE what you've done!!!

Amazing remodel! My wife and I are doing the same to a toy-hauler. Question, where did you get your couch? It seems like it's less deep than the ones we are looking at. We only have one slide, so the skinnier the better. :)

Awesome!! That sounds incredible. We actually bought our camper used and the bed was already in the camper (very outdated, so we use a white slipcover). But we didn't want to get rid of it because it is the perfect skinny size for our slide outs + with a pull out bed. You can google used camper couches online and find some decent stuff....and remember you can always make it look cool with a slipcover, so getting the fit right is the most important!

This is awesome. I'm wanting to do the same with our fifth wheel. Did you have any issues removing the wallpaper border or painting over your cabinets.

We didn't even remove the wallpaper! Just sanded it and removed the bits poking out. Other than that, we basically painted over everything!! :)

Painting over the cabinets was pretty easy. Wallpaper is hard though! We scraped as much off as we could and then sanded down the rough edges. Then we just painted over the rest. If you looked close, you could see an inconsistency in texture, but it wasn't too noticeable.

It was a little tricky! But we took off as much wallpaper as we could and then sanded it down. If you looked close after we painted, you could see a little change in texture, but it wasn't too noticeable :)

I'm looking to purchase and renovate a 5th wheel as well. Do you happen to know which version of the 2003 Keystone Everest ya'll bought? I have my heart set on a L-shaped kitchen, but can't seem to find find one anywhere.

Love what you did! Ironically we just bought the exact same fifth wheel but with a different kitchen, it has the island. What I was wondering though is what process you used to paint the walls, and what you did above the door to hide the gap between the top of the door and the wall (when you take that fabric thing off). Thanks for the help!!

Hi! I have a quick question about the paint job- did you cover everything with painters tape and plastic and use air compressors/spray paint? Or did you paint with brushes? Thanks a bunch! :)

We just painted with brushes and rollers. We used some tarps to cover things, but only a couple. :)

How did you guys lay the hardwoods? And how did you go about doing so over the slide part?

We used a cheap laminate flooring from a store like Home Depot. We did have to recut plywood and lay it over the inner floor and cut it right for the slide out. But after that, laying the laminate was pretty easy...you'll just need to make a few cuts for that slide out and tricky small areas. :) <3

I am so excited looking at this! I see some of my favorite Hobby Lobby art finds too! Was wondering what paint you used for walls and cabinets and how do you like how they are holding up? I'm a single mama in nursing school, but my boyfriend and I bought a 5th wheel today very used but very sturdy! I'm going to pull the carpet tomorrow as my daughter has pretty severe allergies. So, I guess I need to know about what you used for flooring too! I'm a girl with a million questions but a billion pounds of respect for your hard work!!! God Bless!

We just used paint with primer in it for the cabinets and wall and it held up great after we sanded. :)

Beautiful and inspiring work! My wife and I are considering the same kind of renovation, but can't find good information on how to prep the walls before painting. Your walls look to be the same material as ours - thick sheet of plastic material with the pattern on it, and also a wallpaper border. May we ask how your prepped the surface prior to painting? Did you sand it, prime it, etc? We are mostly concerned about the paint scratching off if it gets bumped, etc. Thank you for your expertise and I welcome your feedback! :)

Thanks so much! Yes, we removed as much as the wallpaper as we could with a tool, but it is rather hard. We got off as much as we could and then we sanded the rest to be as flat as possible. We used white paint with primer in it, as we were on a time crunch and it worked really well. We traveled pretty full time for about a year and we did have a few nicks here and there from furniture banging against the wall, but nothing abnormal. It stayed really well for how much we moved around. :)

We just used paint with primer in it. :) I am not 100% sure on the paint, but it was just simple white paint from home depot :)

The white curtains are from Ikea. The gray covers are just the big blinds that cover the windows at night. They were too hard to remove so we just left em, because they came with the camper. You can get them in a camper store or something like that. :)

Beautiful work and very inspirational! Did you do anything to the ceiling? My 5th wheel has a funny burlap/cloths like surface in a light oatmeal color. I swear I'm looking at my trailer in your before pics. First thing coming down are the funky window covers that match the ugly couch!

When you painted the walls did it take well or was there any bubbling from the paper under neith? And how the heck were u able to get the boarder off lol!!!!

We tried our best to get the wallpaper off, but it was very difficult. I ended up sanding it down as much as possible with a palm sander and then just painted over. There's small inconsistencies in the wall because of the texture, but you really couldn't notice too much :)

We are wanting new light fixtures but my hubby says we can only buy from Camping World and it can only be 12volts so where did you get yours and is that just an old wise tale?

I have the same question as a few others here...was your light made for 12v, or can you use a standard fixture if you don't run with the battery only? Also, did you paint inside your cabinets?

We just used normal fixtures, as we didn’t run on the battery often. We didn’t paint the inside! :)

We also only replaced two lights. The rest had bronze rims and matched our decor, so we just knew that most of our lights were 12v and used those on battery :)

Make sure that you buy the best quality fabric for your upholstery so that it can last for a long time. Upholstery is something you don’t change every month, which means choosing the right one is very important.

I love that this post mentioned that it is possible for us to have our RV renovated to make it more homey. My wife and I are looking to buy an RV as we would like to travel long distance. I will definitely look into viable options to have our RV renovated to accommmodate our comfort and needs.

I want to remodel my RV, but I want to make sure that I handle things correctly. It makes sense that I would want to ensure that I get the right walls for my room. That seems like a great way to ensure that I put things together properly.
